Call for Student/Community Art for Fundraiser!

Hello, all!

My name is Megan Lolley, and I am an English student with a Creative Writing minor at the University of Idaho. Last semester, I completed a thesis project titled “68 Seconds: The Power of Poetics Surrounding Sexual Assault.” This project was a creative research endeavor to look into collaborative voice and included 20 poems drafted by me and inspired by the voices of survivors of sexual assault. Since the project’s completion, it has become more than simply my senior thesis. I have received a grant to turn this initiative into a fundraising campaign to support Alternatives to Violence on the Palouse (ATVP) by developing my work into a pamphlet that be distributed via sales; all revenue will be donated back to ATVP to support their mission of empowering victims of sexual assault and domestic violence and creating a safe and equitable community through education and prevention.

One of the most important aspects of this project is the involvement of community; my thesis focused on the power of multiple voices in advocacy and prevention surrounding sexual violence. Therefore, I am asking the community to contribute to the initiative of this fundraiser. I am looking for a piece of visual art that could be used for the cover of this poetry pamphlet. Artists may submit an existing work of art or create a new piece of art, as long as it pertains in some way to the theme of sexual violence and survivor experience/empowerment. Digital and traditional art is accepted; a high quality scan of a physical drawing or painting is requested for those submitting traditional art. Artists may submit up to 3 pieces for consideration, and anyone is encouraged to submit—though only one piece of art will be selected for feature on the cover, I would love to include other pieces of art pertaining to the subject throughout the pamphlet. Along with their art being featured alongside their name, selected artists will receive a free print of the poetry pamphlet and a personal poem written by me in response to their original art.

All questions and submission materials can be sent to my email, loll8702@vandals.uidaho.edu. Please include your full name and “Art Fundraiser Submission” in the subject line of the email and include a brief author bio in the body of the email. Thank you for your help and for supporting survivors of sexual violence.

Happy Trails,

Megan Lolley
