Call for Student/Community Poetry for Fundraiser!

Hello again!


My name is Megan Lolley, and I am an English student with a Creative Writing minor at the University of Idaho. Last semester, I completed a thesis project titled “68 Seconds: The Power of Poetics Surrounding Sexual Assault.” This project was a creative research endeavor to look into collaborative voice and included 20 poems drafted by me and inspired by the voices of survivors of sexual assault. Since the project’s completion, it has become more than simply my senior thesis. I have received a grant to turn this initiative into a fundraising campaign to support Alternatives to Violence on the Palouse (ATVP) by developing my work into a pamphlet that be distributed via sales; all revenue will be donated back to ATVP to support their mission of empowering victims of sexual assault and domestic violence and creating a safe and equitable community through education and prevention. 



One of the most important aspects of this project is the involvement of community; my thesis focused on the power of multiple voices in advocacy and prevention surrounding sexual violence. Therefore, I am asking the community to contribute to the initiative of this fundraiser. I am looking for people to submit their own original poetry pertaining to sexual violence and survivor experience/empowerment to be included in the collection. Writers may submit up to 3 pieces for consideration. These poems will be integrated with a selection of some of my own from my thesis project collection to create a mural of different voices surrounding sexual assault. Along with their poem being featured, selected writers will receive a free print of the poetry pamphlet as well as a book of poetry that inspired the original collection of poems for my thesis project (options include books by Donna Kelly, Dorianne Laux, C.D. Wright, and others).



Poems must be submitted as a Word document (please include the title of the poem and the poem itself in the document) and emailed to loll8702@vandals.uidaho.edu. Please include your full name and “Poetry Fundraiser Submission” in the subject line of the email and include a brief author bio in the body of the email.  Questions can be emailed to loll8702@vandals.uidaho.edu. North Bend & My First Marathon

 Hello, all! I have recently been having some issues with my Jeep, so my adventuring was put on hold for a brief while. We thought something might be wrong with my transmission, which made my bank account cry, but turns out the spark plugs just needed to be replaced. Tito and I are set to resume our adventuring! For this adventure, we did decide not to take Tito, just in case something happened; We wanted to be sure that nothing catastrophic would occur, so for this trip, we took Megan Stanley's car, Terra.  On Saturday, July 29th, Griffen and I took off from Lewiston at 5:45 AM to make it up the hill to Moscow by 6:30 AM. From there, we threw our stuff into the X-Terra, grabbed Megan S., and were off on our journey to Washington.  Along the way, we stopped in Washtucna to make some contributions to the graffiti bus there, which was quite fun and satisfying. I got distracted by some flowers and found a hummingbird moth, which was so cool to see and entertaining to watch....

Careening Around Coeur d'Alene, Idaho!

 Hello, again! It's been a while since I've written one of these--seems my life has settled back into its normal boring routine again after getting back from Colorado. My mind has not, though: I can't shake the feeling of being cooped up, and it's starting to affect me. Thus, it was time to get out and away from the LC Valley for some fresh air and new mountains.  I didn't plan on this last weekend being anything exciting...and it really wasn't, which was perfect. I got sick on Thursday morning with some sort of stomach flu that I like to call the "stress bug," which appears without fail near the end of every semester. When I get very stressed and burnt out, my body harbors it pretty well until everything comes crashing down and I get sick. Though I haven't been nearly as stressed as I have been in the past by this point in the year, I have been struggling with finances and preparing for the next step in my adult life, which is grad school.
